How to read border wait times before you leave

Use lane type, trend, update time, and alerts together instead of trusting one number.

Start with lane type. General, Ready Lane, SENTRI/NEXUS, commercial, and pedestrian lines can move very differently.

Next check the update time. A recent check is more useful than an old number, and delayed information should be treated as a signal to verify before driving.

Trend matters as much as the number. A 45 minute line that is rising can feel worse than a 60 minute line that is falling.

Set an alert when you have a threshold. It is better than refreshing while packing, fueling, or choosing a route.
