FIFA says the 2026 tournament runs from June 11 to July 19 across host cities in Mexico, the United States, and Canada. That makes border travel part of the event for fans driving between match cities, training bases, airports, hotels, and family visits.

Start by matching the trip direction to the border you will use. Mexico-to-U.S. fans need U.S. entry documents and may also need a Border Crossing Card or visa depending on citizenship. U.S. or Canadian fans entering Mexico by land should plan for passport/FMM requirements and Mexico vehicle rules before they leave.

For U.S. re-entry by land, U.S. citizens need a WHTI-compliant document such as a passport book, passport card, enhanced driver's license, enhanced tribal card, or trusted traveler card. Passport cards work for land and sea travel, but not international air travel.

Canadian citizens entering the United States by land can use a Canadian passport, enhanced driver's license or identification card, NEXUS, FAST/EXPRES, or SENTRI card. Canada recommends Canadian citizens travel with a valid Canadian passport because it is the universally accepted document and proves right of return to Canada.

Mexican citizens visiting the United States generally need a passport with visa or Border Crossing Card. CBP says a Border Crossing Card can be used alone only for direct land, ferry, or pleasure-vessel entry from Mexico under the BCC rules.

For Mexico entry by land, INM says foreign visitors using the FMM process need a valid passport or passport card, and visa when required by nationality. INM notes the passport card is for land border crossings and border-zone visits only, not interior travel or international air travel.

Match-day planning should include more than documents. Check current waits, lane type, pedestrian vs vehicle choice, parking, phone battery, water, vehicle insurance, and how everyone in the car will return. Sponsors such as immigration attorneys, auto insurers, parking lots, hotels, shuttles, and travel clinics fit this guide when clearly labeled as sponsored.
